Dasha Needs a Safe Place to Land — Foster or Adopter Needed by October 18th
Dasha is a 5‑year‑old, 53‑lb Mexican street dog with Malinois/Dutch Shepherd roots, and is one of those dogs who loves with her whole heart. When she feels safe, she’s snuggly, affectionate, and deeply bonded to her person — the kind of dog who wants to be near you, who melts into quiet moments, who finally lets her guard down when she knows she’s home. After surviving poisoning, losing her puppy, and spending five months rebuilding trust with her foster mom in Mexico, Dasha made the long journey to Oregon on September 28th, 2026. That transition has been overwhelming for her. She’s showing anxiety around confinement and reactivity toward other animals when separated by barriers. However, she has also shown us that simply seeing another dog doesn’t automatically trigger her; she has calmly passed a small dog on a quiet walk and walked behind a large dog without reacting. Her behavior is shaped heavily by stress, proximity, and environment.
Because of what she’s showing us now, Dasha needs a home where she can be the only pet — no resident dogs, no cats, and no pressure to “socialize” her right away. What she needs most is stability: a calm household, predictable routines, and someone patient enough to let her decompress at her own pace. Her ideal adopter will have experience with shepherds, anxious dogs, or behavior work, children in the home should be 8+, and her setup should not rely heavily on crating. With the right person, Dasha’s best qualities shine — her loyalty, her softness, her desire to connect. She’s a dog who wants to give her whole heart to one person, and she deserves someone who will meet her where she is and help her grow from there.
Dasha has already fought her way through more than most dogs ever face. She learned to trust again. She traveled across countries. She’s trying her best to adjust to a brand‑new world. None of her past erases what she’s showing us today, and none of today erases the dog she was in Mexico. Both matter. Our job is to honor who she is right now and find the home where she has the greatest chance of succeeding. If you’re someone who doesn’t need her to be perfect — someone who can offer patience, structure, and love for one single dog — Dasha is waiting for you.
